Questions
If something here is unclear, or the answer you want is not here, ask before you apply rather than after.
Access and seats
How do I get a seat?
Apply, and the application is read. Access is capped, so applications are reviewed rather than approved automatically. If a seat is available you are invited to start your evaluation, and payment only comes after that.
Why only fifteen?
Three reasons, and they are the real ones. Support stays useful at fifteen and stops being useful well before a hundred. A small number of accounts running the same setups is less likely to crowd each other. And every additional copy of a compiled strategy is additional exposure of the work itself.
What happens when every seat is taken?
Applications close until a seat frees up. Seats are released at the end of a billing period when a member cancels, and applications reopen when one does.
Are applications screened?
Yes. The application asks what you intend to run and what you expect from the strategy, and both answers matter. Someone expecting a fixed income from it is being sold the wrong thing, and it is better for everyone to find that out before any money moves.
Compatibility
Which instruments does it trade?
NQ and MNQ, on hourly bars. It is built for those and is not a general purpose strategy you point at anything.
Which version of NinjaTrader do I need?
NinjaTrader 8. The exact minimum build is confirmed in the setup documentation, because the licensing system sets that floor rather than the strategy.
Can I run it on a simulation account?
Yes, and the fourteen day evaluation is the point at which most people do exactly that.
Can I run it on a prop firm account?
Yes, and there is a prop firm mode with its own sizing that reads a risk budget you set. Whether a particular prop firm permits automated strategies is a question for that firm, and their rules govern, not ours.
Does my computer have to stay on?
Yes. Execution is local, so nothing happens while NinjaTrader is closed or the machine is asleep. If you would rather not leave a machine running, a VPS works, and it needs nothing moved because the licence is issued against your NinjaTrader account rather than against a computer.
If something interrupts it while a position is open, the strategy recovers the trade on restart rather than abandoning it. See "Recovery and interruptions" below.
Recovery and interruptions
What happens if my computer or connection dies mid-trade?
Heptane recovers the position on restart rather than abandoning it. It keeps a record of every open position, checks it against what your broker reports when it starts again, and resumes managing the trade if the two agree.
What if the record and the broker disagree?
It does not guess and it does not resume normal management. It places a protective stop below the position, blocks any new entry until that position is closed, and tells you in the log. If a protective order is already working from before the interruption, it leaves that one alone rather than stacking a second.
Does it write anything to my computer?
Yes, one small file per account recording the open position: prices, quantity, timestamps, instrument. It lives in your own NinjaTrader user folder and never leaves your machine. No account numbers, no credentials, and nothing is transmitted anywhere.
Where is that file?
In your NinjaTrader user data folder, under Heptane. Deleting it while a position is open means the strategy cannot adopt that position on restart and will fall back to the protective behaviour above.
Licensing
What am I actually buying?
A licence to run compiled software for as long as your membership is active. Not the strategy, and not any ownership of it.
Do I get the source code?
No. You receive a compiled, protected assembly. The source is not distributed to anyone.
How many machines can I use?
The licence is issued against your NinjaTrader account email, so it follows your account rather than a particular computer. One NinjaTrader account per seat. Changing machines needs nothing moved: sign in to the platform and the licence is there.
What happens to my licence if I cancel?
If you cancel during the free evaluation it ends the same day, nothing is charged, and there was never a seat to release. Once you are paying, access continues to the end of the billing period you have already paid for, and the licence expires at that point along with the seat.
Billing
What does it cost?
Five hundred dollars a month. The first ten seats are held at a lower founding rate for as long as the subscription stays continuously active.
Where does the money go?
Development of what comes next. The membership funds further work, which is also why members receive access to future strategy releases at no additional charge.
Is there an annual option?
It is planned. The annual rate is not set, so monthly is the only option at launch.
When does cancellation take effect?
At the end of the current billing period, not immediately. You keep what you have paid for.
What happens if a payment fails?
A short grace period applies before the licence deactivates. A failed card does not cost you a founding rate.
Do you offer refunds?
Not once a charge has been processed, which is why the fourteen day evaluation comes first and is free. The exception is technical failure, such as the software failing to install or a licence failing to activate, which is refunded in full. Trading losses and change of mind are not grounds for a refund.
Support
How do I get help?
Through a ticket, with screenshots and logs attached where they help. Expect a reply within one to two business days.
What does support cover?
Installation, activation, configuration of the settings the strategy exposes, and anything that is not behaving the way the documentation says it should.
What does support not cover?
We do not tune settings for your account, and we do not advise on what to trade or how much. There is no remote desktop support. Those boundaries are deliberate rather than a matter of capacity.
Risk
Will I lose money?
You might. Futures trading carries substantial risk and an automated strategy does not remove it. Losing trades are a normal part of how this works, not a malfunction, and there is no arrangement under which trading losses are reimbursed. Only risk capital should be used.
Are results guaranteed in any way?
No, and anyone telling you otherwise about any strategy is worth walking away from. Past results do not determine future ones. What we publish is the trade log, so you can look at the losses as well as the wins and decide for yourself.
Who is responsible for what happens in my account?
You are. The strategy runs on your machine, on your account, under settings you control, and you can switch it off whenever you want. We never have access to your account and never move your money.
Future strategies
Will there be other strategies?
Yes, and the membership is written to cover them. Members receive access to future strategy releases at no additional charge.
What happens when a tier structure arrives?
Every member active at that point moves to the highest tier at no extra cost. New and returning customers meet the new structure. Existing members do not get charged more for what they already have.
Still unsure
Send the question through. An answer before you apply costs everyone less than a support ticket after.
